A group of startup owners were given the sort of mentoring money can’t buy when their first meeting was interrupted by one of Britain’s top entrepreneurs.
Sir Richard Branson, who was visiting the site of his new Virgin Hotel in Edinburgh, called in on the Virgin StartUp session in the city.
Celia Hodson from Hey Girls, who won the Scottish round, was attending the session with Loral and Eishel Quinn from Sustainably, and Pooja Jain from CogniHealth. They were left in disbelief when the tycoon burst through the doors and joined in.
Jackie Waring, the founder & CEO of Investing Women, who was a judge in the Scotland leg of the competition, also attended.
She said: “Richard showing up was an added bonus for us all – I couldn’t believe it when he came through the doors. Hearing from the man himself has left us all inspired and motivated to reach our goals.”
Sir Richard said: “I’m proud of the support we offer entrepreneurs across the Virgin Group. The team at Virgin StartUp knows the importance of mentors and have provided thousands of support hours across the country.
“It was brilliant to drop-in and surprise everyone; and a great way to kick off my visit to Edinburgh.”
