Top tips among a wealth of comedy talent

Gareth Mutch at Edinburgh Fringe
Gareth Mutch: stage presence

There’s a wealth of comedy talent on show at the Fringe. VLADIMIR MCTAVISH offers some of his favourites

GARETH MUTCH WANTS MUTCH MORE
Gilded Balloon Rose Theatre, Rose Street 8.30pm
Gareth Mutch has been around for a few years now, so it is surprising to find out how young he still is. His stage presence and the quality of his writing display a maturity far beyond hid years.  Having done a one-night stand in 2017, Mutch is in for the full run this year with a show that should establish him among the big-hitters of Scottish stand-up.

CHRISTOPHER McARTHUR-BOYD: HOME SWEET HOME
Gilded Balloon Teviot, Bristo Square 10.30pm
CMB, as he is known on the circuit for reasons of brevity, is actually doing his second Fringe.  However, he is now under new management, having joined the stable of London big boys Off The Kerb, who have handled the careers of Jo Brand, John Bishop and Kevin Bridges.  McArthur-Boyd may well be on course to make a huge impact in 2018.

MAISIE ADAM: VAGUE
Gilded Balloon Teviot, Bristo Square 4.30pm
Maisie Adam is a Yorkshire  lass recently re-located to Brighton whose effortless observational style will make this one of the most relaxing hours of comedy in Edinburgh this summer.

JAMIE DALGLEISH: FROM BUCKFAST TO MIDDLE-CLASS
Stand 4, The Stand Comedy Club, York Place  4.45pm
Despite having won Scottish Comedian of the Year several years ago, it has taken Dalgleish a a while to realise his potential.  Ironically, he has dome so after a self-imposed exile from the circuit, but he has returned re-invigorated and re-energised and is in the form of his life.  This will be one of the stand-out shows of 201

JESSIE CAVE: SUNRISE
Stand 4, Stand Comedy Club, York Place 2.25pm
Star of Eight Of Ten Cats, Jessica Cave presents a more laid-back afternoon show which will be entertaining and energising, in the intimate basement setting of Stand 4.   I really think this may be one of this year’s surprise hits.

Vladimir McTavish is contributing regular recommendations throughout the Festival.

His solo show “25 YearsOf Stand-Up”  is at The Stand’s New Town Theatre at 6.50pm until Sunday 26 August.  www.outstandingtickets.com

Apologies if I made a mistake here, Vivienne. I booked Jo Brand for the Newcastle Comedy Festival in the early nineties. In my memory, I went through Off The Kerb but it could be that I have mis-membered that in the subsequent twenty-odd years

Hello can you clarify that off the kerb have booked jo brand’s live tours. Her career has been managed by VIVIENNE CLORE for thirty years. Many thanks
