The Vialex Edinburgh Touch Rugby League kicks off this week with 32 teams taking part in the nine-week multi-league event.
Sponsored for a third year by corporate and commercial legal services firm Vialex, the first games take place in Inverleith Park on 8 May.
Nearly 450 people are expected to play every week, with 65% of teams representing businesses and the remainder made up of social and family groups. The organisers and sponsors of the largest mixed sporting competition in the city put an emphasis on the inclusivity of the event; with all teams being mixed-sex and one in three players over 35.
The Vialex Edinburgh Touch Rugby League is the largest in Scotland and the longest-established in the UK. Businesses taking part this year include Baillie Gifford, Balmoral Asset, Diageo, EY, FNZ, GSI Events, Scottish Government, 7IM, Standard Life Aberdeen, Vialex and Walter Scott & Partners.
Keith Dinsmore, director of Vialex, said: “Once again we are thrilled to be supporting the Vialex Edinburgh Touch Rugby League. The weather gods were smiling on us last year and we are hoping for more of the same this year.
“It is great to see this year’s event oversubscribed again and we are looking forward to another nine weeks of great sport, played in a fantastic spirit.
“The event wouldn’t be possible without the organisation of Viki Mendelssohn of Big Blue and her team of helpers, and I’d like to put on record my thanks to them and our volunteer referees for making it all happen.”
