Bar opening: Brewer and pub company Innis & Gunn opened its fourth, and largest Beer Kitchen and one with a key difference.
The outlet in Glasgow’s fashionable Ashton Lane features its first on-site microbrewery.
The company is also collaborating with local artist Lynn Howarth to provide customers with bespoke portraits…using beer.
This weekend Lynn will be in residence at the bar to paint lucky punters. Lynn is a Glasgow based artist and graduate of Grays School of Art who works mainly in pastels, focusing mainly on portraits and figurative work.
In advance of the launch, Lynn created several portraits of Scottish and English celebrities including Peter Capaldi, Sir Sean Connery, Irvine Welsh, Ed Sheeran and Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons- all painted with Innis & Gunn’s Kith & Kin stout.
The company says it will be producing new beers every week, served fresh from the tank. Ashton Lane head brewer Digger Robinson will be experimenting with new flavours to create special edition brews.
He created three special brews in the onsite microbrewery to celebrate the opening: Ashton Lane Pale Ale (4.0% ABV) Table Beer (3.5% ABV) and Marshmallow Milk Stout (4.0% ABV).
The Beer Kitchen Ashton Lane comes after an exceptional year for the brewery’s retail group, with new openings in Dundee and St Andrews in 2016. Innis & Gunn’s first Beer Kitchen opened in Edinburgh in 2015.
Set over three floors, and with a total capacity of 396, the Glasgow Beer Kitchen features 17 keg taps, 3 cask taps and over 50 packaged craft beers, offering one of the largest craft beer selections in Glasgow.
Innis & Gunn has also collaborated with Glasgow’s own Auchentoshan distillery to produce a unique beer barrel-aged in Auchentoshan casks at the Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth. The beer will be available for a limited period exclusively at Beer Kitchen Ashton Lane.
Dougal Gunn Sharp, founder and master brewer, said: “The Beer Kitchen Ashton Lane is a fantastic new opening for us, putting our first onsite microbrewery on the map in Glasgow’s craft beer scene.”
David Hall, Innis & Gunn retail managing director added: “Following the success of our bars in Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews over the last year, we were thrilled to find the perfect location on Ashton Lane to expand our retail offering with our biggest venue yet.
