One of Scotland’s top hotels hosted a party for more than 300 guests to mark the return of the largest luxury hotel brand in the world.
The George, in George Street, Edinburgh, ended its brief association with Principal in the summer and has been re-branded the InterContinental Edinburgh – The George. It is the only InterContinental Hotel property in Scotland.
The brand previously operated the hotel and this launch marks the completion of a multi-million-pound refurbishment of the New Town premises which were built in the 1780s as a collection of Georgian townhouses.
Over the years it has served as an artist’s studio, entertained the writers, poets and thinkers of the Enlightenment, and wa also an insurance office.
Andreas Maszczyk, general manager, welcomed specially-invited guests who were served a selection of seafood in the main dining room by chefs flown in from other hotels in the group.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has more than 200 premises worldwide with 60 in the pipeline.
Recent openings include Lyon and Hayman Island and this year will see others in the Maldives, Phuket and Beppu.
