
Edinburgh Airport marked the imminent launch of the first direct flights to China with a celebratory party in the city.
Hainan Airlines will begin flights from 12 June as part of an innovative flight model which links three capital cities – Beijing, Edinburgh and Dublin.
The route will fly from Beijing to Dublin and then onto Edinburgh and then back to Beijing on Thursdays and Sundays, flying to Edinburgh and then Dublin and then back to Beijing on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
More than 400 guests were invited to Brewhemia to enjoy a mix of Scottish and Chinese entertainment.
Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport CEO, last night described it as another milestone in the growth of the airport and a boost for businesses and tourism in both countries.
Pickering’s gin was serving special cocktails to mark its own imminent launch of the first gin and seafood bar in Beijing. The company has joined forces with Panda Brew, innovators in the fledgling Chinese craft beer scene. The bar is expected to open in July.
