Those looking for a singer who always goes beyond the usual tribute routine should make a date with Camille O’Sullivan who blends the passion and power of a song with a touch of humour and something new.
This year, her 20th anniversary, there is a personal theme in songs she chooses to reflect on her younger self as she grew up to the music of the late Shane MacGowan and Sinéad O’Connor. Both became personal friends and she shares their loss last year as musicians and as individuals.
From the Pogues she interprets “Summer In Siam”, “The Broad Majestic Shannon”, and “Haunted”, which she sang at MacGowan’s funeral, while “My Darling Child” is from O’Connor’s catalogue.
O’Sullivan has been a lifelong fan of musical poets such as Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave and Cave’s “The Ship Song” has been a regular part of the act. This is one of the class acts of the Fringe and not to be missed.

For those wandering the streets there is a plenty of free and spontaneous entertainment on offer and one gig that caught the eye was by the Honey Trap trio.
Their pop-funk performance in the shadow of the new Edinburgh Futures Institute drew a growing crowd of passers-by.
It’s always a sign of something good when they stick around to soak up more of what is on offer.
